ORIGIN OF HALLOWEEN

It is a tradition of Celtic origin to celebrate the end of summer and Irish harvests

Halloween is a festival of pagan origin that is celebrated on the night of October 31, the eve of All Saints Day (its Christian version), and that has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced «sow-in» ), which means "end of summer" and was celebrated at the end of the harvest season in Ireland to begin the "Celtic New Year", coinciding with the autumn solstice.

During that night it was believed that the spirits of the dead walked among the living, and there were parties and sacred rites that included communication with the dead. In addition, it was customary to place a burning candle in the windows so that the dead "found their way."

This is a primarily Celtic tradition, so it is celebrated in Anglo-Saxon countries such as Ireland, Canada, Australia, England and the United States, the latter having the largest media and cultural dissemination of the party, due to the transmission of customs and customs of the Irish immigrants

But Halloween also has some impact in countries like Mexico and Colombia, where it is celebrated, as in other countries, today.
